The Story of a Writer

Hey everyone!

My name is David Langley and this will be my first blog post here at the Sucarnochee Review so don't get too upset with me if it seems like I don't know what I'm doing.

Let's jump straight into it. I'm an only child who grew up in a deaf household. Neither of my parent's can hear and they decided to cut their loses with just one child. (Believe me, one of me is enough.) I was often left to my own devices, as far as entertainment goes, and one of those devices became writing. I had a big imagination as a child so it only made sense that I wanted to see my stories spring to life on a page. I soon began writing short stories and many people seemed to enjoy my work as I progressed through high school.

Emboldened by my apparent success in the art of story writing, I embarked on a grand adventure to write my own book and to get it published. In short, I succeeded... Partly. I had finished my first book by the time I was in tenth grade and I was on track to getting it published. The publisher that I was going through was very helpful and guided me to the halfway point, where cover art and potential character designs were starting to spring up. Well, it was at this point that I came to a startling realization. My book was horrible. Despite the complaints and encouragement from my publisher, I decided to pull the idea and to drop connections with the publisher. So, in the end, I wrote my book (and a sequel), was on my way to getting it published, and decided to shut the book up and place it in a dark dusty place where no one would ever find it. It has been almost a decade and it has not seen the light of day since.

Later on in my career, when I came to West Alabama, I began working with the college newspaper and I am currently working with the Sucarnochee Review to bring the stories of people, who started out just like me, to life through publication.

I, as a writer, loved to see my words flow onto the pages of my notebooks and my mind to plot out the directions I would have my characters go. Now, as a writer, I love to see the work and creativity of others and give them a chance to go where my book never deserved to go.
