If I knew then that I know now, I would have:
Respected my elders. They knew/know more and they used that knowledge to help me.
Taken back one of the music boxes. Long story short, my parents and best friend both bought me a music box. Not wanting to hurt any feelings, I kept both and hid one. Mom found it one day and was not pleased.
Let Mom read my short stories when I began writing. They weren’t good, but she’s not interested in me being good. She’s interested in me sharing my passion with her.
Stood up for myself. I’m a little doubtful as to whether it would have made things better at school, but I think I would have had more confidence if I did that.
Embraced who I was and what I wanted to do. I wasn’t involved with anything at school, but I wish I did more in the community. Something extracurricular that would have given me something fun to do and a new way to meet people.
